GrandCentral's Project CARE Tops More than 1,000 Registrants; Expands Service into Bay Area
SAN FRANCISCO Oct. 5, 2006 - GrandCentral Communications, Inc. (www.grandcentral.com), a next-generation personal communications company, today announced it has registered more than 1,000 homeless and in-need clients since its April 2006 launch of Project CARE. In addition, the company is expanding Project CARE into the greater Bay Area, assisting the homeless in Oakland and surrounding areas. GrandCentral also participated in today's Project Homeless Connect 13 event in San Francisco, marking the fourth event the company has attended this year.
Since launching Project CARE in April 2006, the company has signed up over 1,000 homeless clients with free local phone numbers and voice mailboxes and have delivered over 14,000 voicemails messages to those who previously had no means of keeping in touch with family and service providers such as social workers and doctors. In June 2006, Pac-West Telecomm partnered with GrandCentral and has been instrumental in allowing GrandCentral to expand the Project CARE initiative to an even wider group of agencies in the Bay Area and beyond. There are more than 20 local partners associated with Project CARE and that number grows each day.
"There is a true need among the homeless to be connected to the outside world," said Craig Walker, CEO of GrandCentral Communications. "With a phone number for life and free voicemail service, the homeless now have the ability to better their lives and stay in touch with loved ones, potential employers and medical personnel. We look forward to our continued work with new partners as we expand into Oakland and beyond."
GrandCentral will continue to develop the Project CARE pilot program in the San Francisco Bay Area through 2006 and plans to extend the program nationally.
